  • Court and form pairs which take turns sitting on eggs but when hatched, chicks feed themselves. Parents main job is to protect chicks.

  • 7-8” from beak to tail tip

  • Medium-sized plover with a brown back and head. They have a wide black breast band, thick black bill, light colored legs and a distinct white eye stripe on its head.

    • Piping plovers

    • Semipalmated plover

  • Wanders up and down surf zone or along the edge of the salt marshes probing the ground with its bill for invertebrates.
